Day 70 of 100 Days

Sarah Swaysland

Thursday, 11th March 2021

It’s my brother’s birthday today, so I had a call with him as he had lots to tell me because he’s just moved to Sandhurst. I won’t bore you with any of the details here, but suffice to say, he is remarkably well on his 39th birthday. I managed to volunteer with three organisations today, and it was fairly constructive. It’s strange to think that I’ve got less than a month of my challenge left to go!

What: Online Auction
Organisation: Dons Local Action Group

It feels like we’re finally turning a corner and we have our final prizes in. There are some amazing ones in there, I just need to organise them onto the online system. The copy is written to jazz up most of the prizes which range from afternoon tea at the House of Lords with Phillip Hammond (the local MP for Wimbledon) to going to a regular training session with the AFC Wimbledon players and a Q&A afterwards – which is an amazing prize. Bristol Rovers (and AFC Wimbledon) legend John Scales will be taking three people to dinner at The Ivy in Wimbledon, which I think is really cool, mainly because he's an old Gashead.

What: Google AdWords and Facebook Ads
Organisation: The Doorstep Library

Before getting into anything else, I made some butter chicken, which was really nice and a great cook-ahead for the evening. I then spent some time drafting some ads for The Doorstep Library. They like to see every ad in draft form, which is fair enough, as our relationship is still quite a new one, so they like to approve everything and make changes before going live. Also, it forced me to adapt my Google Ads spreadsheet, but that’s okay because it’s super-easy for me to plan ads in bulk now.

What: Weekly catch-up
Organisation: Transforming Autism Project

This was the weekly catch-up Zoom for the March For Autism campaign. Nothing much has changed in terms of new things that need to be done, but we have 24 people signed-up to #MarchForAutism so far which is pretty positive. This includes my son, who will hopefully be completing his 10k walk over two days on the Easter weekend - although he'll probably end up running for most of it, because he runs everywhere. The only new development with TAP is that their Google AdWords volunteer has had to take a step back, so they need me to create some ads for the campaign. This is fine, I'll fit it in somewhere tomorrow or Saturday.

In other news, I got my offer through from UEFA to volunteer at the Euros this year. Apparently, it's still going ahead, although I’m not sure what the restrictions will be regarding Covid. I’m going to be on the ACE team, which is a part of the volunteer management team, so I’m really excited to see what I’ll learn from that.
