Next week is half term, so today is the last day that I can really get a good run of volunteering before I’m juggling it with childcare next week and doing most of my work in the evenings. What better day than to take on a new charity! My new charity friend is called Reverse The Trend, and they are an amazing charity dedicated to tackling childhood obesity and the mental health effects caused by it. I also carried on with some work I started yesterday for The Doorstep Library and came up with a document for Cricket Without Boundaries and Bat For A Chance which should help us procure some lovely prizes and donations for our auction.

On the back of some really positive steps forward this week, I’ve designed a poster which we can use when approaching people to donate to our auction. It details who we are, what we’re doing and what we’re raising money for. I’m hoping that it’ll help people understand what we’re doing a bit more and entice them into donating something. Will from BFAC hasn’t reviewed it yet – he was in an English lesson when I sent it through. I’m absolutely in awe of what Will’s doing with this charity whilst also trying to pass his GCSEs. He’s certainly a lot more mature and together than I was when I was his age – or anyone else I knew for that matter.

This morning, I carried on where I left off yesterday with the Doorstep Library. I had sorted out my spreadsheet, to make it easier for the team to approve ads before I posted them on Google (this preview option is really something that Google should do on their platform – and if they already do it, they do it badly because it’s not obvious enough). What I’ve come up with is pretty good, because it makes me feel organised and it’s a case of copy and paste once the wording has been approved by the Doorstep Library team, but it would be a lot easier if I could get a gauge on how the ad is going to perform before I give them the copy to approve. This is something I will investigate further, as I feel like Google really ought to offer the option where you can have a large selection of ads that you can draw-up, save and then showcase to your ‘client’ or senior leadership team. Just you wait, I’ll probably discover that they already have this feature, or, even more freakily, they will probably see this post (because they see everything) and they’ll take my tip and do it. If it happens AFTER 12th February though, I'm going to take full credit for the idea.

After an absolute mission trying to gain access to their AdWords account, even though I was already granted Admin access, I finally managed to get into the Reverse The Trend account to essentially repeat what I had just done with The Doorstep Library. This was actually a pretty good exercise because the more I get into doing AdWords, the quicker I get and the easier it becomes. RTT is a really great charity that aims to reverse the trend of childhood obesity. It began in 2014 when Cait, the founder, learned of how a 12 year old child in the UK had received a gastric bypass as a life-saving measure and she was horrified that this measure had to be taken on someone so young. The charity also looks at the impact that obesity has on young people and their mental health – because mental health walks hand in hand with physical health. They conduct bespoke scientific research projects and use the results come up with programmes which fight the impact that childhood obesity has on the child and on society as a whole. They then aim to roll these programmes out into communities. I'm pleased to be working with them, as it certainly adds variety to my charity repertoire.
